Heavy rains cause huge devastation in Wayanad, Kerala||
The death toll in the landslide following heavy rains in Wayanad, Kerala has risen to 243. 130 people are in the hospital, while more than 240 people are still missing!! The landslides occurred in Mundakkai, Choorlammala, Attamala and Noolpuzha villages around 2 am and 4 am on Monday night. Houses, bridges, roads and vehicles were washed away in these.
The Western Ghats have been completely destroyed. If action
is not taken, a huge disaster awaits Kerala. It won’t take ages, just four or
five years. You and I will still be alive to see it. Then you’ll understand who
is afraid of the truth.
Teams of Army, Air Force, NDRF, SDRF, Police and Dog Squad are engaged in rescue. By late night, 1 thousand people were rescued, 3 thousand people have been sent to relief camps!! Apart from Wayanad, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
The Army on Wednesday rescued 19 tourists stranded in Ila Resort and Vana Rani Resort located outside Mundakkai village. They were stranded here since the incident. According to Defense PRO, the soldiers of 122 Infantry Battalion (TA) Madras built a human bridge with the help of ropes to evacuate all the citizens to Choorlamala!!
For now, schools and colleges are closed, university exams are postponed. After the accident, two days of state mourning has been declared in the state.
Health Minister injured in accident. While she was going to
Wayanad to take stock of the landslide incident, Kerala Health Minister Veena
George was injured in a road accident on Wednesday (31 July) at around 7.30 am.
She has been admitted to the Medical College of Manjeri in Malappuram. The
incident happened while saving a scooter rider!!
